The article explores a new scientific field -“cyberpsychology”– which examines human activity involving computers, mobile communication, and the Internet, as well as their impact on information health as a component of overall health, which is shaped by and dependent on information. The study highlights that cyberpsychology is currently transdisciplinary, encompassing various scientific and practical domains viewed through the lens of psychology and behavioral sciences. In the emerging semantic field of cyberpsychology, metaphorical concepts such as “information hygiene” and “information detox” (ID) have taken shape. The former refers to a system of knowledge that investigates the patterns of information's influence on the mental, physical, and social health of individuals and society, while also developing measures to improve the surrounding informational environment. The latter describes media asceticism, or a temporary abstention from using information and communication technologies. The application of information hygiene is examined through the principles of information security at three levels: personal, social, and state. In contrast, the institutionalization of information detox is actively advancing in Western countries, although it remains insufficiently emphasized in the social sphere, with greater focus currently placed on the individual level. While scientific research in this area remains limited, there are already works addressing the practical application of ID. The presented sample of scientific and practical materials reflects diverse perspectives from different authors. It is noted that abstaining from gadgets can often be uncomfortable and stressful, causing feelings of irritation, anxiety, or even boredom in the absence of mobile phones and other devices. To maintain a healthy level of information well-being, it is suggested to embrace a behavioral philosophy known as JOMO (“the joy of missing out”), which emphasizes finding happiness in intentional disconnection. The article concludes that this study, by enriching the semantic field of cyberpsychology with new concepts, provides a foundation for further research and the development of practices aimed at enhancing information health of the individual.
