The conclusion is made about the expediency of empirical verification of the informativeness of the data available to external observation on the provision of human preferences for certain types of stress management strategies in the event of certain complications in its activities. Emphasis is placed on the study of various changes that occur in speech under the influence of the state of emotional tension (alter ego emotional vulnerability of the subject). The scientific approach to the formalization of the problem of differentiated study of the reasons for the choice of athletes in extreme conditions of competitive sports: substantiated unconscious mechanisms of psychological protection against stress, or conscious strategies for psychological overcoming. Using the methodology of modern science (questionnaire “Coping behavior in stressful situations”), the selection of the studied strategies of psychological coping with stress in various situations of their lives was studied. An analysis of the comparative characteristics of the frequency of choice of emotional response strategy in groups with different levels of emotional stability, and on this basis it was found that emotionally vulnerable athletes in difficult situations of sports are likely to often use such unproductive strategy for psychological competition. avoidance of problems, which is inherent in them and in other difficult situations of life. The position is substantiated that emotional stability is mediated by dispositional characteristics of the personality, but, in addition to them, strategies of psychological overcoming of stress, which are preferred by athletes, play an important role. It is proved that taking into account the differences in the selection of strategies for psychological coping with stress by different actors, opens up prospects for the development of various behavioral techniques for implicit diagnosis of emotional stability. The possibility of recognizing the characteristics of behavior of the individuals resistant to stress in contrast to the stress-vulnerable ones has been studied. The latest comparative studies of qualitatively different means of response to stress-defense mechanisms and strategies for psychological coping with stress are presented. The results present the empirical validity verification of the approach of the implicit (reflected) assessment of the emotional stability of the athletes` with higher achievements in terms of dominance in choosing the type of coping with stress strategy.
