Abstract

The article presents the results of an exploratory factor analysis of the emotional intelligence of male juvenile convicts and adolescents with normative behavior. The sample of the study consisted of 626 persons. In the accordance with the aim of the research, the factor structure of emotional intelligence was determined by two groups: juvenile convicts, which included 301 persons and 325adolescents with normative behavior. Empirical generalization of the set of variables involved in the study was carried out by using the method of principal component analysis and minimizing the number of variables by maximizing the variance of loadings in factors. The factors” number was determined by using Kiser criterion. Information is given on the scales of psychodiagnostic techniques that were involved in the factor analysis procedure. As a result of factor analysis, five factors were identified in the group of juvenile convicts, which cover 66,71% of the variance. In the group of adolescents with normative behavior, four factors were found, which cover 74,14% of the variance. The factor structure of emotional intelligence in the group of juvenile convicts was formed by the following factors: “Emotional immaturity” (factor 1), “Emotional alienation” (factor 2), “Emotional mechanisms for supporting belonging to an antisocial group” (factor 3), “Emotional sociopathization” (factor 4) and “Cognitive reactivity” (factor 5). In the factor structure of emotional intelligence in the group of adolescents with normative behavior, the following factors are distinguished: “Positivization of emotions” (factor 1), “Positization of behavior” (factor 2), “Positivization of interpersonal relations” (factor 3) and “Virtualization of negative experiences”(factor 4). The factor analysis carried out in the article made it possible to present emotional intelligence as an integrative, system-forming property of the individual, which characterizes the process of self-realization of a person, and, accordingly, determines the vector of studying the factors and conditions that determine the processes of its formation and functioning.
